FAQ
Q: I have no previous modelling experience. Is this okay?
A: As this is a documentary project, prior modelling experience is not necessary, and many of our models have never modelled before. Our photographers are all very helpful and patient, and the photo shoots themselves are conducted with a professional yet comfortable atmosphere.
Q: Is any money involved, either the models paying for the photos or
Dirty Suzie paying for the modelling?
A: No money is involved either way. As Dirty Suzie is a non-commercial project, it is just not possible to pay each model. In return for your time and use of your images, we will provide you with a professionally shot portfolio of colour prints and a CD containing all photographs from your shoots.
Q: Where are these photos going to be displayed? Will they be sold off to other parties?
A: The photographs will be used solely for the Dirty Suzie project, and will not be sold off to anyone else. Initially these images will form part of an exhibition on Sydney counterculture, with the possibility of a collection of the best images used in a publication under the same name.
Q: What preparation is involved in the photo shoots? Are we required to do our own hair/makeup/etc beforehand?
A: Requirements for photoshoots vary depending on your photographer. You are encouraged to discuss the aims and theme of the your photoshoot with the photographer beforehand, and offer your own ideas. Only a limited number of the studios have provisions for extensive makeup, so remember to ask for it if you need it!
Q: Are these solo shots?
A: In general these will be solo shots, but if you would like to do group shoots, you are welcome to suggest it to the photographer. Each photographer has their own personal aesthetic, and so the direction of the shoot is up to you and the photographer.
Q: How much time would I be expected to commit?
A: Photo shoots typically take around an hour and a half, although depending on the complexity of the shoot this could vary. You can contribute to as many photo shoots as you would like, and are encouraged to wear your favourite wardrobe items to each. Bare in mind that more shoots allow us to build up a more diverse portfolio for both the project and yourself.
