What you wear represents the most immediate and personal artistic expression possible, while positioning you within a web of subtle signifiers of shared allegiances and perspectives. Dirty Suzie intends to bring the unique, organic aesthetics of Sydney’s subcultures back into the fold of art, hoping to renegotiate the boundary of art and fashion by offering a looking glass from the gallery back into the streets.
While Dirty Suzie will be presented as a survey and study, there is no pretence of an anthropological objectivity. The documentary style is just a normative convention like the white-painted walls of a gallery that attempt to create an emotively/ideologically/contextually neutral space that doesn't actually exist. The Dirty Suzie artists exist within the realm of Sydney denizens, and will be contributing to the dynamism of the subcultures we are engaging in.
